Amgen Strategic Sourcing Manager in West Greenwich, Rhode Island

Manages the overall procurement processes of a group of goods and services, to meet the needs of internal customers. The categories of focus are Media, Chemicals and Excipients used in manufacturing. The role will report directly to the Director of the Raw Materials and Distribution vertical.

FUNCTIONS

  • Serve as the primary expert for the Sourcing organization in the categories managed (Media, Chemical and Excipients)

  • Work with Business Areas and Stakeholders to identify new areas of process improvement

  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs that impact Cost of Goods Manufactured

  • Modify or implement methods that lead to Process improvements to our Operations

  • Apply Lean and Operational Excellence Principles

  • Establish and lead cross-functional sourcing team in selection of suppliers and negotiations

  • Create and manage RFPx using electronic systems, i.e. ARIBA, SAP

  • Experience in negotiating new or revised Master Agreements with key Suppliers

  • Analyze Supplier's data to assess Supplier's financial stability risk

  • Interact with Corporate Risk Management to assess Insurance policy coverage

  • Interact with Legal to find resolution in Terms and Conditions with Suppliers

  • Establish metrics and KPIs to monitor supplier performance stability and monitor potential risks

  • Execute orders once implementation criteria have been achieved

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree OR

  • Master's degree and 2 years of Strategic Sourcing or Purchasing experience OR

  • Bachelor's degree and 4 years of Strategic Sourcing or Purchasing experience OR

  • Associate's degree and 10 years of Strategic Sourcing or Purchasing experience OR

  • High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Strategic Sourcing or Purchasing experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • C.P.M. (Certified Purchasing Manager) from I.S.M. (Institute of Supply Management)

  • Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal), and leadership / management skills

  • Experience with Project Management (Planning, prioritizing and delivery), with experience in leading / working in project teams across geographic and/or functional reporting lines

  • Healthcare industry experience and/or subject matter expert in specific field

  • Knowledge of category management practices and principles

  • Proficient with MS Office Suite, including Excel

  • Expertise in supplier and contracts development and negotiations

  • Knowledge of strategic sourcing and supplier alliance implementation

  • Knowledge of Supplier Relationship Management

  • In-depth supplier/industry analysis experience to manage a dynamic/volatile Category(ies)

  • Extensive Category (industry/market) knowledge

  • Financial data knowledge; analytical skills

  • Strong computer literacy

  • Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills

  • High level of client focus
