Role Specification: Global Strategic Sourcing (GSS) Strategic Sourcing Associate European Head Quarters (EU HQ) & UK Affiliate

This role will give the successful applicant the opportunity to work closely with lots of different business functions and spend categories in one of the leading Bio Tech companies in the world. They will understand how large multi-national companies work and how to work within a corporate environment.

Purpose:

  • Own and deliver sourcing strategies and productivity initiatives for EU HQ & UK

  • Deliver the insights and sourcing needs for business stakeholders/customers

  • To execute and implement the sourcing and purchasing needs of Amgen

  • To ensure compliance with all relevant sourcing policies and procedures

  • To support the Global Category Managers with execution of sourcing strategies

  • To be a Procurement Process and Systems expert ensuring compliance with all relevant sourcing policies and procedures

  • To be a Contracting expert, leading contracting activities, managing ongoing contract management needs (for Strategic and Supply Constrained Categories) and to be accountable for hand-off to Contract-to-Pay teams

Job Summary:

The Strategic Sourcing Associate will be responsible for effectively sourcing various indirect categories projects in the EU HQ & UK businesses, in accordance with established Procurement policies and guidelines. Working closely with and prioritizing activity with the EU HQ Sourcing team and Global Category Managers, implementing and contributing to global category sourcing strategies and supplier management processes. The role will report directly to the Country Sourcing Manager for EU HQ & UK and be based in either Uxbridge or Cambridge.

Context and Responsibilities:

Executing sourcing strategies:

  • Deliver sourcing & productivity opportunities effecting process, demand and cost

  • Manage Request for Proposal and Quotation processes (eRFX), evaluate and negotiate proposals, ensure and validate selection of suppliers

  • Work with the Global category managers to define EU HQ requirements and implement regional sourcing strategies

  • Develop supplier analysis and market intelligence to support sourcing strategies

Delivering value for customers:

  • Supports Global Category Managers with EU HQ & UK impacting activity

  • Understands business objectives and interprets customer needs to identify sourcing opportunities to support them

  • Build strong partnerships with colleagues in Finance and Functional Customers as appropriate

  • Support / Manage delivery and validation of savings

  • Anticipates and prevents potential problems through root cause analysis

Managing supplier relations:

  • Maintaining and developing of preferred supplier lists

  • Support global / regional category managers to identify and articulate long-term strategic value that can be obtained through supplier collaboration

  • Deliver supplier improvement programs and drive continual value from key supplier relationships

Managing contracts:

  • Ensure Amgen's procurement policies are followed, ensuring that compliance metrics are met or exceeded, supported through preferred supplier contracts:

  • Inform stakeholders on Amgen's sourcing policies and procedures, providing support and corrective actions where required

  • Approval of purchase requisitions and escalation of any non-compliant requisitions to the appropriate GCM/RCM

  • Lead contracting with new suppliers

  • Ongoing contract management (Renewing and Renegotiating existing and expiring contracts)

Location: This role can be based from our Uxbridge or Cambridge site. There will be some travel required between the two sites as well as some European travel.

Basic Qualifications/Experience:-

  • Has solid understanding of sourcing processes (tendering, supplier negotiations and contracting), across multiple indirect spend categories.

  • Competent in Project Management and independently develops practical solutions.

  • Excellent communication skills (presentation, virtual team development, etc) resulting in relationship building and development

  • Problem solving skills

  • Able to work with minimal direction, ensuring quality of tasks / service provided by self and other

  • Fluent business English, written and oral

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:-

  • Degree with strategic sourcing experience

  • Experience using e-procurement tools such as Ariba

  • Ability to help shape customer's overall strategy while understanding business goals.

  • Applies analytical skills to evaluate and interpret complex situations using different information sources in order to draw and present analytic insights

  • Highly proficient with MS Office Suite, including Excel
