Amgen Process Development Scientist Core Technologies - System Analytics in Thousand Oaks, California

Amgen's Attribute Sciences group within Process Development is seeking a Process Development Scientist for a position based at their Thousand Oaks, CA site. The applicant to this largely laboratory-based position will be responsible for effectively partnering across the network on driving investigational work. They will need to understand and apply state of the art analytical technology for assessing and identifying unexpected materials (e.g. organic, inorganic, and biological in nature) that arise during, and/or influence process development, clinical and commercial manufacturing operations. In addition, the PD Scientist will lead / drive root cause analysis and communicate scientific results with internal and external partners across a global network.

Master's degree and 4 years of Scientific experience
Bachelor's degree and 6 years of Scientific experience
PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Physical or Life Sciences
Excellent written and oral communication skills for the timely documentation, presentation, and discussion of scientific results in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary, team-based environment
Demonstrated ability to effectively adjust communication altitude
Demonstrated ability to critically analyze and interrogate various analytical data sets to drive and influence the investigational process
Strong demonstrated ability on approaches for root cause analysis
Demonstrated ability to propose and lead new scientific imperatives/initiatives
Experience in an investigational laboratory setting within a pharmaceutical or biotechnology company
Strong understanding and experience on wet chemistry and sample handling
Strong understanding and hands-on experience across spectroscopic (e.g. vibrational, chemometrics, Mass Spectrometry) tools
Additional experience for a range of chromatographic (e.g. High Performance Liquid Chromatography: HPLC, Gas Chromatography: GC) techniques
Experience in working closely with scientific and manufacturing disciplines across process development, clinical, and commercial operations
Ability to mentor peers and junior staff
