Amgen Process Development Reagent Scientist in Thousand Oaks, California

Attribute Sciences of Process Development is seeking a Process Development Scientist. The Scientist will be responsible for developing strategies, methodologies and technologies to characterize and quantify process reagents and excipients in drug substances and drug products.

The Scientist will lead the efforts to understand and analyze excipients and reagents as well as collaborate with representatives from key functions within Process Development, Manufacturing and Quality. The position will provide strategic and analytical support to process development activities and assist in transfer of methods to stakeholder laboratories. The Scientist will be responsible for communicating these outcomes within Amgen network and external scientific communities as well as regulatory agencies.

Basic Qualifications



Master's degree and 4 years of Scientific experience


Bachelor's degree and 6 years of Scientific experience

Preferred Qualifications

Excellent leadership skills

Excellent written and oral communication skills for the timely documentation, presentation, and discussion of science-based results and strategy in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary, and team-based environment

Extensive hands-on laboratory experience including analytical method development for reagent clearance and excipients, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical industry.

Strong experience with mass spectrometry: Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometer (LC-MS), Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectroscopy (ICP-MS), Ultra violet visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), chromatography: High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), and Ion Chromatography (IC). Experience in transfer of methods to a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) environment, and familiarity with biopharmaceutical process development and raw material evaluation. Experience with bioanalytical method development and/or automation.

Ability to identify and evaluate advanced methodologies of sample treatment and automation. The ability to apply a wide range of chromatographic and detection methods and to evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of each for a particular application. The ability to initiate new scientific imperatives, to make careful observations, and to keep clear and complete records of work is important.
