Amgen Principal IS Architect, Analytics & Information Discovery in Thousand Oaks, California

The Principal IS Architect will be responsible for implementing solutions to support Amgen's overall analytics strategy. This position will be part of the Analytics and Knowledge Management group and will be based at Thousand Oaks, CA. The successful candidate will have experience in open source web application development technologies, in data analytics frameworks, tools, and languages, and public cloud development experience using AWS, Google Cloud Platform, or Azure. The Principal Architect will be responsible for delivering business value through client projects, growing the value of the data marketplace platform, and implementing analytic solutions.
Primary responsibilities include:
Lead the strategy, development and evolution of Amgen's Enterprise Data Marketplace.
Lead web-based application development for various analytics and search-based applications.
Responsible for defining and implementing project and technical road maps that align with the strategy.
Develop high level solution architecture, feature, and capability assessments for projects.
Overall accountability of technical implementation aspects of projects including architecture, design, development and testing.
End-to-end responsibility of the build process including project planning, schedule management, release management, financials and vendor management.
Partner with client facing IS teams and business stakeholders to ensure that the solution is an appropriate fit for the end users and stakeholders.
Research and evaluate technical solutions including various web application development platforms, write position papers and present them to leadership.
Maintain knowledge of market trends and developments in Data marketplace/catalog, web application development frameworks and related and emerging technologies to provide, recommend, and deliver best practice solutions.
Doctorate degree and 2 years of Information Systems experience
Master's degree and 4 years of Information Systems experience
Bachelor's degree and 6 years of Information Systems experience
Associates degree and 10 years of Information Systems experience
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Information Systems experience
BS or MS in computer science or related field.
5+ years of experience leading web application development projects for analytics and search solutions and/or data catalog projects.
Experience working with Open Data frameworks such as CKAN or DKAN.
Experience using Search engines like Solr or Elasticsearch as the back-end for web applications.
Experience with one or more NoSQL databases such as MarkLogic, DynamoDB, MongoDB, Neo4J, etc.
Experience using Linux/Unix.
Expert understanding of software development, DevOps, unit test, automated testing, GitLab, continuous integration (Jenkins), and continuous deployment (Docker and Kubernetes).
Understanding and experience with security fundamentals, role-based security, and familiarity using encryption keys and controls.
Strong leadership and communication skills to work with executives and stakeholders in selling the vision and providing content and best practices.
Experience designing and delivering services in a multi-national, world-wide design pattern with its incumbent security, privacy, latency, and availability issues understood.
