Amgen Global Marketing Director - Cardiovascular / Metabolic / Neuroscience in Thousand Oaks, California

The Global Marketing Director is based at Amgen's Global Headquarters in Thousand Oaks, California, and reports to the Global Marketing Executive Director, Cardiovascular Franchise.

The areas of responsibility for this role include:

Develops and Executes Strategy :

Develops commercial inputs to the product development strategy and global go-to-market plans for Amgen's portfolio of investigational Obesity and Alzheimer's disease assets. The work scope is consistent with the Amgen Commercialization Framework including, but not limited to:

  • Identifying critical unmet needs (both patient and HCP)

  • Framing insights questions and leading insights sub-team

  • Articulating the patient journey and synthesizing other insights

  • Crafting strategic imperatives and behavioral objectives

  • Creating brand book and product names (INN/tradename)

  • Identifying key tactics and associated budget requirements

  • Drafting go-to-market models

Designs and executes Global promotional activities in line with Commercialization Framework guidance and appropriate timing

Builds external networks (e.g. thought leaders, potential partners, etc.)

Oversees Commercial-Enabling Functions:

Commissions and oversees market research in partnership with Business Analytics and Information (BA&I) and develops resulting plan of action

Works with Competitive Intelligence to understand competitive landscape and develops resulting competitive plans of action

Develops long range plans (sales and operating expense forecasts) for all assets complete with key performance driver assumptions, with Forecasting support

Works with Communications to create aligned brand 'narratives' for internal and external communication

Works in Teams:

Serves as a core member of relevant global Product Teams (as appropriate) and works to support a high-performing team dynamic

Leads relevant cross-functional Insights and Brand Platform Teams (IBPT) to plan and execute Commercial strategy

Partners with medical and advocacy colleagues to optimize brand performance with respect to opinion leader development, high quality medical education, medical communications, medical information, etc.

Partners with other key functional stakeholders to resolve issues and maximize brand performance

Partners with regional and country-based colleagues, as needed

Identifies, contracts, and manages external agencies and vendors including creative agencies, consultants, etc.

Supports business development as needed with disease area expertise

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 4 years of marketing experience


Master's degree and 7 years of marketing experience


Bachelor's degree and 9 years of marketing experience

Preferred Qualifications:

10+ years of biotech/pharmaceutical industry experience

Experience in a strategic regional or global function

Demonstrated record of strong commercialization planning and execution

Experience in obesity, cardiovascular, and/or Alzheimer's therapeutic areas

Experience in direct-to-consumer marketing

Scientific study/degree (e.g. biology) or proven learning agility with respect to scientific concepts
