Amgen Global Commercial Operations Learning & Performance, Senior Manager Strategic Planning in Thousand Oaks, California

This Senior Manager role reports to the Director of Marketing (Altius) Learning & Performance (L&P) and partners with the Executive Director of Global Commercial Operations L&P to provide strategic input for, and management of, all aspects of the industry-leading, global General Manager Development Program (GMDP), including GM on-boarding. All current Country General Managers and a select group of aspiring GMs participate in this ongoing development program. The program offers advanced technical skills aimed at elevating the performance of GMs and their management teams. This position plays an essential role in ensuring programming remains at a high level and continues to raise the bar for participants.

The Senior Manager is expected to have 3 direct reports.

In this role, the Senior Manager:

  • develops, coordinates, and manages GMDP curriculum in collaboration with external vendors and internal Amgen subject matter experts;

  • manages all GM Advisory Group (5-6 senior GMs) meetings to ensure alignment of content to client needs;

  • ensures full alignment of activities and content with Senior Leadership (EVP, SVP and VP levels) and preparation of all elements within the program; captures program learnings and integrates into future programming;

  • manages Executive Coaching selection, performance, and reviews;

  • collates and manages all tracking, feedback, and program adjustments;

  • works directly with Regional SVP GMs to ensure that the GMDP continues to meet ongoing business and leadership needs;

  • manages the total budget for GMDP (approximately $650K-1M);

  • leads the GCO Strategic Operations team focused on day to day operations of commercial learning; this team plays an essential role in assigning, tracking and monitoring GCO staff compliance with training activities.

  • provides strategic operations support for the GCO L&P Leadership Team (LT); participates as a member of the LT, supports meeting planning and execution, develops All Staff and LT presentations and partners with the Executive Director on the direction of GCO L&P and the approximate 100 staff within the organization; and

  • provides strategic and project support for ongoing GCO L&P projects as needed.

This position is based at Amgen's headquarters in Thousand Oaks, CA and includes international travel (10% - 15%).

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree and 2 years of project management and/or training & development and/or sales management experience

OR

Master's degree and 4 years of project management and/or training & development and/or sales management experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 6 years of project management and/or training & development and/or sales management experience

OR

Associate's degree and 10 years of project management and/or training & development and/or sales management experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 12 years of project management and/or training & development and/or sales management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry.

  • 2+ years in one or more of the following areas: project management, training & development, sales management.

  • Capable of working effectively with cross-functional senior leadership.

  • Demonstrated ability to build strong internal credibility, and to manage remote relationships.

  • Demonstrated ability to oversee complex projects, manage time, resources, senior consultants and highly strategic vendors, and cross functional teams is also required.

  • strong project management skills.

  • Demonstrated record of success, effective team contribution and leadership qualities, organizational agility, and excellent matrix management skills.

  • Strong analytical, strategic, and technical skills, creative problem solving, and excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience in Global Training, Adult Learning Principles and/or Instructional Design.
