What you will do

Let’s do this! Let’s change the world! In this vital role, you will provide world class EHSS Environmental Management leadership and client support across Amgen’s growing network. This role will work with an empowered team to lead global environmental compliance programs and support the development of innovative and compliant solutions.

The successful candidate will:

  • Support Amgen’s expanding business by assuring innovative, compliant, and efficient facility design, execution, and operational readiness.

  • Actively participate in Capital Project Engineering assessments and conceptual design process.

  • Apply a “Plan, Do, Check, Act” management systems approach to monitor and continually improve environmental program network performance.

  • Serve as a global program manager and subject matter expert in designated environmental programs including water quality, air quality, waste management, and hazardous material transportation.

  • Apply your environmental compliance expertise to the network to provide guidance, support the business, and manage complex challenges.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Implement global environmental management systems to assure compliance with all country, state, and local regulatory requirements and authorizations.

  • Liaise with regulatory agency representatives and other external parties.

  • Support Engineering teams by completing compliance assessments, effluent modeling, and review of treatment system designs.

  • Investigate environmental incidents and assure robust corrective and preventive actions are implemented.

  • Provide environmental expertise to risk assessments of new and existing systems and processes.

  • Prepare EHSS governance dashboards and provide guidance and expertise to functional leadership.

  • Evaluate the impact of changes in the regulatory landscape upon Amgen operations and lead the development of compliance plans and processes.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma / GED and 12 years of EHSS or Engineering experience OR

  • Associate degree and 10 years of EHSS or Engineering experience OR

  • Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of EHSS or Engineering experience OR

  • Master’s degree and 4 years of EHSS or Engineering experience OR

  • Doctorate degree and 2 years of EHSS or Engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Engineering or Environmental Management degree in related field and 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry leading EHSS programs.

  • Advanced relevant EHSS Certifications such as Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, Certified Environmental Professional, Board Certified Environmental Engineer.

  • Demonstrated success in managing Environmental Compliance programs, with expertise in wastewater management and treatment system design.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated success with maturing programs and processes with a continuous improvement mindset.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and EHS management system software solutions.

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
