Amgen Specialist Information Systems Engineer - Storage in Tampa, Florida

Amgen is seeking a Specialist Information Systems (IS) Engineer - Storage to join the Amgen Storage Team within the Global Business Service (GBS) Infrastructure Services organization. The incumbent is responsible for supporting the enterprise storage environment providing operational support and managed service provider (MSP) oversight for our multiple EMC SAN and NetApp storage services impacting over 7PB of geographically dispersed data. The Specialist IS Engineer will report to the Senior Manager Information Systems at its Capability Center in Tampa, FL. This state-of-the art center serves as a base for finance, information systems, and human resources professionals to make a meaningful impact at one of the world's leading biotechnology companies.

The Infrastructure Operations Team manages physical and virtual hosting including: private and public cloud hosting options, operating systems, databases, middleware, storage, and backup. The Storage/backup group manages the large scale global NAS/SAN storage infrastructure that requires 24x7 uptime and meets compliance requirements.

Key Activities include:

  • Supports the Service Owner, full time employees, and MSP in the development, delivery, and continuous improvement of the technology service

  • Ensures service is aligned with the key principles of service ownership which includes: meeting the needs of the business, cost effectiveness, scalability, compliance, reliability, and resilience

  • Assist Service Owner and Architect in detailed resource planning for vendors and IT teams based on the prioritized project list

  • Perform necessary storage infrastructure maintenance in accordance with EMC and NetApp best practices and Company Change Management policies

  • Contribute to SOP & Runbook Design, Development, and ongoing updates

  • Contribute to ongoing recommendations and best practices in Business Continuity, Migration, High Availability, Backup, Recovery, and Archiving

  • Investigate and resolve storage related technical issues. Participate in rotational 24x7 On-Call Support at the SME level and assist/lead Root Cause Analysis reviews

  • Perform data replication, both local and extended distance using EMC, Timefinder/SRDF and Recoverpoint

Basic Qualifications

Doctorate degree

OR

Master's degree and 2 years of Information Systems and Storage administration experience

OR

Bachelor's degree and 4 years of Information Systems and Storage administration experience

OR

Associate's degree and 10 years of Information Systems and Storage administration experience

OR

High school diploma/GED and 12 years of Information Systems and Storage administration experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years' experience with NetApp and/or EMC storage technologies

  • 3+ years' experience in on premise backup and archiving solutions, and off-premise public cloud backup, archiving, and DR solutions

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience on ONTAP 8.x -7 Mode and Cluster Mode and local and remote replication using snapshot, Snapmirror, Snapvault and Flexclone

  • Proficiency in configuring and administering zero RPO and low RTO for enterprise mission critical applications using EMC VMAX with SRDF-S, SRDF-A

  • Ability to troubleshoot with appropriate array/storage unit tools complex database performance issues with demonstrated experience in storage provisioning using SYMCLI, ECC, NavisecCLI, Navispehere and Unisphere for VMAX and VNX storage arrays

  • Highly skilled in Cisco Director Class 9500 series FC SAN switches

  • Ability to troubleshoot performance issues on SAN switches and storage arrays

  • Strong scripting skills using shell, powershell and batch accompanied with excellent data-driven problem solving and analytical skills

  • Demonstrated experience as part of a high performance team, skilled in persuasion, and negotiation of critical issues, along with a background of solid systems administration processes and procedures for both NAS and SAN environments
