Amgen Sr Associate Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Job Summary

We are looking for an Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) Senior Associate to support our drive for world class EHSS performance in a R&D and Process Development laboratory environment. The successful candidate will assist with key EHSS programs and partner with clients to advance safety culture and manage EHSS risks.

The Senior Associate will support laboratory clients with input from other EHSS subject matter experts at the site and from within the Amgen EHSS community.

Functions (Duties/Accountabilities):

Program Support:

  • Manage programs and/or assist the program owners and site subject matter experts for Chemical Safety, OSHA Safety Programs, Radiation Safety, Pressure Safety, Hazardous Waste, and Environmental Programs.

  • Conduct Risk Assessments, Job Hazard Analyses, and High Hazard Material reviews.

  • Assist operations and engineering with projects to ensure process safety processes and principles are utilized and incorporated within design and work processes. Assist with process safety technical reviews of project designs.

  • Implement Lab Chemical Safety program improvements required to develop robust chemical management, hazard communication and lab safety programs.

  • Provide instructor-led training on a variety of EHSS subjects.

Client Support:

  • Partner with assigned clients to drive world class EHSS performance

  • Execute safety culture program to integrate EHSS as part of day to day client operations

  • Execute risk assessment plans for clients to ensure all risks are proactively addressed and control systems are implemented and maintained

  • Ensure all changes with potential EHSS impact are assessed and controls are established prior to implementation

  • Ensure all hazards are identified and risks are proactively assessed

  • Assist clients with regular inspections of the work areas

  • Participate in client meetings

Liaisons:

  • Accountable to Site EHSS Director

  • Daily interactions with Site EHSS Team and Clients, plus Global Facilities Operations and support services

Basic Qualifications:

Master's degree

OR

Bachelor's degree and 2 years of directly related EHS experience

OR

Associate's degree and 6 years of directly related EHS experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 8 years of directly related EHS experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering related field and 3 or more years of directly related EHS experience, or Master's degree in EHS or Engineering related field and 2 years of directly related EHS experience

  • Understanding of lab-based EHSS disciplines

  • Ability to partner with and effectively influence laboratory staff and management

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software systems

  • Understanding of Biology and Chemistry Lab operations, especially large-scale operations

  • Strong knowledge of chemistry fundamentals, or strong understanding of various chemical hazards.

  • Knowledge of US, Massachusetts and Cambridge regulations as they pertain to pharma/biotech operations

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, action oriented, self-starting, program development and project management
