We are seeking a highly motivated co-op looking for an opportunity to gain an experience at a world class organization to join our Functional Screening Group. The group specializes in the development of customized cell-based bioassays catered for specific scientific needs. We are responsible for the identification and functional characterization of antibodies that have desired activity using these assays. The co-op will work closely with a supervisor and contribute to projects that could potentially have a direct impact on human health.

Essential functions:

  • Use of laboratory techniques such as: cell culture and transfection, ELISA, flow cytometry, fluorescence imaging, reporter gene assay

  • Experimental design, execution, and data analysis

  • Critical evaluation, communication, and documentation of the experimental data

Basic Qualifications:

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:

18 years or older

Currently enrolled in a full time Bachelor's degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent

Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing

Enrolled in a full time Bachelor's program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university

Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications:

Degree concentration(s): Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biology, Immunology/Microbiology, Life Sciences or related discipline

Able to work for two consecutive four month terms with continued employment for the second term dependent on a positive performance review at the end of the first term

General knowledge of cell biology, immunology & molecular biology

Previous lab experience

Completion of previous co-op term(s)

High attention to detail and able to comply with written procedures

Strong written and oral communications skills in English

Function effectively as part of a team

Excellent organizational skills
