The Cell Sciences team at Amgen BC is looking for an exceptionally talented and motivated student. Working alongside biotechnology industry experts, the successful student will play an important role in antibody discovery using hybridoma and other high throughput technologies. The tasks will comprise, but not be limited to, extensive primary and immortalized cell tissue culture, flow cytometric analysis of immune cell subsets, and advancing our antibody discovery technology platforms by developing and implementing novel solutions. This exciting opportunity will enable the student to gain practical scientific experience in one of the most promising areas of the biotechnology industry.
Performing various state of the art cell biology approaches, including hybridoma generation, single cell primary culture and FACS analysis
Complete a research project that supports our antibody discovery platform or novel technology development efforts, aligned with department's objectives
Gain experience in industry-standard data and record keeping, including electronic lab books
Communicate data progress at internal meetings; give an oral presentation to the site at the completion of each term; participate in scientific exchange with Amgen Scientists from other sites as opportunities arise

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for an undergraduate internship or an undergraduate co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
18 years or older
Currently enrolled in a full time Bachelor's degree program from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
Completion of one year of study from an accredited college or university prior to the internship commencing
Enrolled in a full time Bachelor's program following the potential internship or co-op assignment with an accredited college or university
Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
Background in Cell Biology and Immunology
Prior experience in tissue culture and immunofluorescence
Effective communication skills for oral and written presentation
Experience with Excel and Word
Able to work for two consecutive four month terms with continued employment for the second term dependent on a positive performance review at the end of the first term
Previous laboratory experience (2nd work term +)
